Visit Þingeyri 2023
Literally everything has to happen in Þingeyri and Dýrafjörður this summer.
Every day from June 1st to August 31st there is some kind of recreation and services available in the fjord and you can enjoy the spectacular nature of Dýrafjörður in various ways. After all, the fjord is renowned for its beauty and tranquility and well-known histories from the Icelandic sagas, as visitors can learn about this summer.
For the second year running, the people of Dýrfjörður are showing their hospitality under the title Heimsækjum Þingeyri , and have compiled all the activities, events and services available in the summer season in one place, to make it easier for guests to enjoy their stay in the beautiful fjord.
These include the Comedy Theatre, which for example teaches guests about the saga of Gíslasaga in an entertaining way in Iceland's smallest theatre in Haukadalur.
Then you can try sea swimming under the guidance of the locals, which of course ends up in the hot tubs in the swimming pool, which is located next to the campsite and there is also a great beach volleyball course for those who want to take a try.
Another sport that most people can try is kayaking, which is an ideal way to enjoy the natural beauty of Dýrafjörður, not least in the midnight sun.
For more tranquility, there will be family yoga and nature walks, which could end with a snack at the hotel, the Simba Palace or Gemlufall.
Artisans exhibit and sell their products in Koltra, where there is also an information centre. Art exhibitions will be held all summer in Hotel Sandafell and the Simba Palace, and the Musical Instrument Museum will also have its doors open, which owns one of Iceland's leading long-game makers and you may be able to order one piece of long play along the way.
Don't be alarmed if you see a glimpse of Vikings in Dýrafjörður, they are the best skins, but they will be quite prominent during the Viking festival even though they hardly walk around the village.
Dýrafjarðardagar will be held again on the third weekend in July and will take place on the same weekend as the Westfjords Running Festival, so there will be constant life and fun at Þingeyri this summer.
Check out the event calendar here and please share as much as possible.
